A Response paper is an essay or piece of writing where you are supposed to express your opinion on the text or article you have read or the movie you have watched. The focus of your writing is on close reading and critical analysis of your text. Its structure includes an introduction, the body, the conclusion.

I am convinced by Carroll’s (1996) conclusion that ….., yet I dislike the way he has ignored ……use words that are emotive. Appreciative, blissful, even handed, neutral, etc. Use impersonal Voice: The phrase It is said… Please don’t be confused about Impersonal Voice and Personal Pronouns), use the first person.

While writing a response essay, you can include statements like the following: I felt that…, In my opinion…, The reader can conclude that…, The author seems to…, I did not like…, This aspect didn’t work for me because…, The images seemed to, The author was [was not] successful in making me feel, I was especially moved by, I didn’t understand the connection between, It was clear that the author was trying to.

Response Paper on The Craft of Research

“The Craft of Research” is a book written by Wayne C. Booth, Gregory G. Colomb and Joseph M. Williams, and published by University of Chicago Press Chicago and London. The main theme of this book is how to find a research topic, narrow it and formulate the statement of the problem by posing the research questions. The writer claims that this book is helpful for the researchers to bring their first research project. I agree with the writer that beginner researcher might face the problem to choose research topic, narrow it and formulate problem statements.

The writer suggests that beginner researcher should chose the topic from their interest area. According to the writer, the researcher should visit library and search the articles and see the bibliography. Go through it and select the topic of interest. Likewise, the researcher should search topic on google. Visit various blogs and websites to narrow the topic. I strongly agree with the alternative idea given by the writer that if a researcher cannot find the interest area then look for recurring issues and debates, search online journals call for papers and anything that can help to find the research topic. After the selection of topic, the writer suggested to narrow down the topic select focus key words and add more phrase and verbs to make it meaningful headings. The writer suggested to the beginner researchers that after selection of topic start taking notes while reading anything, make a plan and ask standard questions like who, what, whom and where. But mainly focus on how and why either the topic can have answers of these questions or not? Likewise search topic history, composition, category then compare and contrast how the topic is different than others. After that think for significance whether the research will be met audience’s expectations or not? Lastly, the writer has suggested in three major ideas for selecting the research topic. The first one is naming the topic. For example, I am thinking that I am going to learn about cause and relation ship between achievement of mathematical score and family background of students. I strongly agree with the ideas for the selection of research topic that what is thinking about? What don not know about it so I want to know and why I want my reader to know about it?

Finally, the writer suggests that go through various research articles of interested field, visit bibliography and set the topic, attend conference seminar, talk and lecture and listen for something, ask the instructor about the current issue, google it and find the related matters which help to narrow down the topic, ask yourself about statement problem by posing the research questions.
